The company has built and maintains a suite of analytics capabilities hosted in the cloud and applied to interesting problems found in the pharmaceutical, care delivery and managed care domains. Our particular areas of expertise are in the large-scale predictive and causal modeling areas.  The Computational Biologist position is in the Precision Medicine group focusing on computational systems biology problems in the context of drug discovery, translational medicine, and related areas, such as computational biomarker discovery, population stratification, drug target identification, GWAS, etc. 

We are looking for an energetic and creative team member with background in Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field with experience and knowledge in biological and informatics applications.

You would be responsible for start-to-finish work on the analysis and interpretation of biological datasets using GNS’ powerful cloud-based analytics platform.  Your work would involve predictive and causal modeling using both proprietary and off-the-shelf tool, with responsibilities ranging from data preparation, loading, statistical analyses, interpretation, report-writing, in-person presentations to clients and collaborators, and scientific communications to journals and conferences. 

This position is based in Cambridge MA.

You are:

  • Experienced manipulating large datasets in R, Matlab, or Python (R a strong plus).  Familiarity with efficiency considerations.
  • Experienced with statistical inference and machine learning.  Experienced with multivariate linear and GLM modeling. Bayesian inference a plus.
  • Familiar with the foundational concepts in molecular biology, pharmacology or medicine.  Experience with NGS, proteomics, and other high-throughput assays a plus.
  • Interested in pushing the envelope in terms of computational technology and innovation.
  • Experienced at clearly communicating your work, its rationale, methods, results and impact to outside parties through written manuscripts and presentations.


  • Ph.D. with 2-5 years of experience or strong recent graduate, with concentration in life sciences, mathematics, physics/biophysics, statistics/biostatistics, bioinformatics, or computer science.
  • Exceptional MS-level candidates will be considered.
  • Knowledge of one of the statistical programming languages. Experience with R and Bioconductor preferred.
  • Familiarity with the UNIX and cluster computing environment such as Amazon Web Services preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must take a short statistical screening test or request a waiver based on strong background, in which case you will be asked to speak through the test concepts over the phone.
